Summer: There it was, gone

I just got back from 2 great weeks on the Island. Lots happened, lots got done, lots got lined up to happen, lots to do.

I landed in Moncton about 6pm, Wednseday July 17th, and James and Betty met me at the airport. We drove to Jim and Marcia's house and picked up the round pedestal clawfoot dining room table of Jim's and headed to the house. we stopped for Tim's in Borden-Carleton (always a must when I hit Canada) and arrived at the house about 10pm. We said our hello's to Mom and Dad, and went to bed, planning our first project. The next day, James and I painted the Parlour in Farrow and Ball Blue-Green. I did the cutting and James did the rolling. We got 2 coats on and finished the room by the end of the day. Thanks James, great job!

That evening, the tile guy showed up and we went over next steps to get the basement bathroom finished. He will be back in about 4 weeks to install the tile, after our carpenter and plumber does some prep.

Friday, we brought the table in from the van. We left it in the van until the Parlour was painted, because we needed the space in the Dining Room to pile the Parlour furniture while we painted. Jim gave me his yellow crocheted tablecloth that Grammy made him for the table, and Mom and Dad have a white one to match, so we put them both on the table. Grampy found the table for Jim over 30 years ago, restored it and made a new top for it. It is the perfect size for the Dining Room and is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. Thanks Jim.

Dad stripped and refinished the mantle that was in what was the front bedroom. He completed that just the day before we arrived, and he did a beautiful job of it. James, Dad and I installed it in its original position, which is now the parlour.

While we were working on that, Loreen, Danny and Ralta arrived.

I will eventually order sconces for either side of the mantle, but for now its bare bulbs.
We immediately hung the painting of the house in Hopefield that I painted for Dad for Christmas 1998 over the mantle.

Some trees needed trimming, and with my bad knee, ladders and I don't get along so well, so James got the job done.
All in all, a productive couple of days. The next day was Dad's 75th birthday. Next posting will be the party...
...and oh yeah, we have grass now.
